Art Brut from Japan
16 July – 18 October 2009 |
|
The exhibition presents, for the first time
in Austria, the works of 15 autodidactic artists from Japan.
These artists, who live on the fringe of Japanese society
– many of them in psychiatric institutions –
have each created, through their art, an individual world
of their own, characterised by great aesthetic intensity.
The paintings and graphics, sculptures and objects of these
artists are presented together with touching documentary
films that convey an impression of their lives, their particular
circumstances and their ways of working. "Art Brut
from Japan" was developed by the Collection de l'Art
Brut in Lausanne, the internationally renowned museum for
outsider art.

Picasso
- Myths, Fables and Models
3 April – 5 July 2009 |
|
With more than 130 graphic works by Pablo Picasso,
taken from five creative periods spanning approximately a decade
each, the exhibition leads us into Picasso’s universe of
motifs and obsessions. We encounter fabulous creatures from Greek
mythology, such as the Minotaur or the centaurs, as well as the
bullfight theme and several of Picasso’s favourite models.
The exhibition, conceived especially for KUNST HAUS WIEN, presents
works selected from the extensive collections of the Graphikmuseum
Pablo Picasso Münster and offers unique insights into Picasso’s
methods.

The
Unknown Hundertwasser
20 November 2008 – 15 March 2009 |
|
The
exhibition "The unknown Hundertwasser" was conceived
to mark the 80th anniversary of the birth of Friedensreich Hundertwasser.
Works were shown that have rarely or never been exhibited before,
in particular paintings from private collections. Architecture
projects planned by Hundertwasser and only completed after his
death, applied art objects and designs, as well as a multimedia
documentation rounded off the presentation. A catalogue, published
by Prestel Verlag, Munich, accompanied the exhibition and is available
in the Museum Shop. |
