Opening: 21 January 2016, 7 p.m.
With two solo exhibitions on Peter Piller and Anita Witek KUNST HAUS WIEN presents artistic positions that understand photography as a raw material which is used for further processing. Peter Piller and Anita Witek both utilise existing photographic material – photographs taken for ordinary purposes and everyday images, which they mainly take from magazines and newspapers. However, both artists sort and question the photographic material in different ways and according to different criteria. By translating the pictures into new contexts and rearranging them – be it by adding (Piller) or deconstructing/montage (Witek) – they succeed in analysing today’s omnipresent imagery in a brilliant way.
Peter Piller, born in 1968, lives in Hamburg. Since 2006 he has been professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig. Anita Witek, born in 1970, lives in Vienna.
Peter Piller – Belegkontrolle is an exhibition of KUNST HAUS WIEN in cooperation with Fotomuseum Winterthur, Städtische Galerie Nordhorn and Kunsthalle Nürnberg. "Albedo", the accompanying publication to the exhibition and first book containing texts on Peter Piller, was published by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König and is available in the shop.
The Anita Witek - About Life exhibition has been developed for KUNST HAUS WIEN in close cooperation with the artist.
The exhibitions are curated by Verena Kaspar-Eisert.
