  • The Austrian Ecolabel

In 2018, KunstHausWien was the first museum to be certified with the Austrian Ecolabel.

    The Austrian Ecolabel

The Austrian Ecolabel was designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser in 1990. Our success is that we were the first museum to be awarded this eco-label.

    Sustainability at KunstHausWien

At KunstHausWien, environmental protection is not only reflected in the content, but is also an integral part of operations and day-to-day work. All processes are regularly checked for environmental compatibility and ecological action and optimised where necessary. Anyone interested in the specific measures - from purchasing and exhibitions to restaurant offers and products in the shop - can find detailed information on our sustainability concept here.

    Officially awarded the eco-label

A milestone in our efforts was the award of the Austrian Ecolabel on 13 September 2018, making KunstHausWien the first museum ever to receive this award; previously, it was reserved primarily for businesses in the event, tourism and education sectors.
The opportunity to officially certify museums and exhibition centres is not least an initiative of KunstHausWien in cooperation with ICOM Austria (Austrian National Committee of the International Council of Museums). On the basis of this cooperation, the Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism was able to develop a catalogue of criteria for awarding the seal of approval to museums.

For us, the award was never an end in itself. Rather, the aim of our initiative was to provide impetus for the entire museum operation and to promote long-term investment in sustainability.

With the KunstHausWien newsletter you will receive current museum news, invitations to openings and events, as well as information about our educational programs.
