The KunstHausWien was extensively renovated in 2023 and 2024. Since then, the energy supply and building technology meet the latest modern standards. Instead of gas we now use groundwater to generate power (hydrothermal energy). We heat and cool the museum with an ecofriendly air-to-water heat pump, which has led to a 75 per cent reduction of our energy consumption. Anything but hot air was our change to LED lighting and the insulation of the ventilation system; these have also greatly enhanced our energy efficiency. We can cool the museum additionally with our new planting system – in a completely natural way. 260 plants in, on and around the KunstHausWien help us to achieve this. And they are of course watered appropriately: the water is drawn from an underground cistern that holds 8000 litres of groundwater, the final link in a sustainable ecofriendly cycle.
Built-in sustainability
Modern technology, natural resources and plenty of greenery: this is how sustainability becomes visible every day at KunstHausWien.
