Art and nature are in harmony at the KunstHausWien. As our founder Friedensreich Hundertwasser wished. And we remain committed to this vision today – witnessed by our thematic orientation as a centre for art and ecology. But the KunstHausWien is a location where issues like climate change, recycling and urban development have a place that goes far beyond exhibitions. Sustainability even plays a substantial role in our daily operations. All processes, no matter if in the administration or the museum, are optimised to limit their environmental impact. And these efforts have been recognised – we were accredited with the Austrian Ecolabel in 2018 and successfully recertified in 2023. As the first Green Museum we are not only a role model for the cultural sector but take our sociopolitical responsibility as a public institution very seriously. An overview of how we do this is available on this page, while our detailed sustainability policy is accessible here.

At KunstHausWien, sustainability shapes not only our exhibitions, but also how we work, build, organise events and shape the future together.

Great art doesn’t have to consume a lot of resources: that’s why we plan and realise our exhibitions as sustainably as possible.

Sustainability doesn’t start at the museum – how you get here also plays an important role in making your visit as climate-friendly as possible.
